WoodWisdom-Net Research Programme 2006-11The first Joint Transnational Programme under the WoodWisdom-Net ERA-Net Project was launched in the beginning of November 2006. The topics of the 1st Call are aiming at long term profitable and sustainable forestry management and forest production, efficient raw material supply for specific products or demands and end-uses and new innovative, eco-efficient, cost competitive products, processes and services. WoodWisdom-Net Research Programme has 17 consortia projects covering aspects of the value chain from forestry via wood to fibres and representing basic and applied research as well as development aspects.

Extending the trans-national WoodWisdom-Net Research ProgrammeThe first ERA-NET on wood material science and engineering, WoodWisdom-Net started in 2004 with 12 partners from 5 countries and was later in 2006 expanded with 6 new partners (3 countries). The project was initiated as a part of the European Commission's ERA-NET Scheme which intends to step up cooperation between national research activities. As the main result, the 1st Joint Transnational WoodWisdom-Net Research Programme (2006-11) with 17 projects of a total volume of over 20 M€ was launched. The follow-up project WoodWisdom-Net 2 - "Networking and Integration of National Programmes in the Area of Wood Material Science and Engineering in the Forest-Based Value Chains" with 19 partners from 12 countries was started in March 2009 and it is further to extend the co-ordination and integration of a common European research and funding platform within wood material science and engineering and set the basis for a long-lasting cooperation in the field. Besides other activities, one of the main goals during 2009-12 is launching of two new Calls under the WW-Net Research Programme: the 2nd Call (2009) of applied research and industrial development call with a focus on wood and fibre based products; the 3rd Call (2010) focusing on consortia combining basic and applied research, with a broad scope covering new and innovative production in forest-based value chains and promoting participation of researchers outside EU. |
