APPLICATION PROCEDURE

The submission deadline for pre-proposals was due to 1 December 2010, 1 PM CET. A joint transnational evaluation of pre-proposals was undertaken during December 2010 and January 2011. The pre-proposals which were evaluated successfully are invited to submit a full proposal by 31st of March 2011, 1 PM CET through the Electronic Submission System (ESS) which will open on February 1, 2011 at 12 PM (CET).

National funding regulations are applied within this joint call. It is strongly recommended that the national funding regulations are checked with the contact person at the respective funding agency (see call text) before submitting a proposal.

Consortium agreement model (.doc). This is based on the model provided by DESCA (The Simplified FP7 Model Consortium Agreement, http://desca-fp7.eu/,  v2.0 May 2008, small project, fair and reasonable conditions) which has been modified to accommodate the ERA-NET specific mechanisms of the WoodWisdom-Net Research Programme which differ from FP7 rules. Although this is a general model to cover typical R&D consortia it might need specific adjustments for your individual project. Please feel free to modify, shorten or streamline the text or use another model according to the needs of your consortium.

JoinEU-SEE - Scholarship scheme for academic exchange between EU and Western Balkan countries. JoinEU-SEE is a scholarship scheme for academic exchange between EU and Western Balkan countries. The scholarships for undergraduate, master, doctoral and post-doctoral students and staff are financed by the European Commission.

INTRODUCTION
In this call the European Research Area Networks (ERA-Nets) WoodWisdom-Net 2 and ERA-NET Bioenergy aim to step up the cooperation and coordination of research activities carried out at national and regional level by joining forces to promote innovative research and cooperation to help optimise the use of trees and forests.

Total public funding of ca. 18.5 M€ will be jointly provided by 19 national funding organisations from Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United Kingdom during 2011-2014.

CALL TOPICS
Proposals for collaborative transnational projects on basic and/or applied research and/or industrial research and development are welcome. There is no funding available for industrial/commercial scale pilot projects.

The call covers the research topics listed below. Each proposal should address at least one or more of these topics. Innovative forms of cooperation are encouraged, e.g. interdisciplinarity (natural/technology sciences and social sciences, researchersusers), research and implementation, involvement of stakeholders.

Topics:
1. Forest for multiple needs of society, including enhanced productivity and optimised use of forest feedstock.
2. Advanced products and technologies for primary wood processing and manufacturing of wood and fibre-based products.
3. Advanced biofuels and biorefineries.
